THE
HAUNTED TRAIL
Published by Longman Zimbabwe in 2006, The Haunted
Trail tells the rags-to-riches story of a top banker, Michael Denga, who rises
from a life of poverty and deprivation to remarkable success. When a young,
beautiful chartered accountant, Chiedza Jacha, enters into his life, the circle
looks complete and the reader can only wish the couple well. But success has
its own random distribution of cards. Michael,
whose haunted past during which he was raised by his single mother, a shebeen
queen who eventually succumbs to HIV, engages in multiple sexual relationships.
In the end he infects his fiancée, breaks off the engagement and subsequently
commits suicide as the police close in on him after it emerges that his
Pentagon Bank was involved in serious breaches of the law…
THE TIES
THAT BIND
The Ties that Bind, published by New Heritage Press in
2015, is the sequel to The Haunted Trail. Here we are introduced to Lincoln
Mafusa, a top notch lawyer and work colleague of Jackie’s best friend, Chiedza. Lincoln, who is unaware of Chiedza’s HIV
positive status, is drawn to the younger woman but worries that they may never
be able to have a relationship because of the skeletons from his own past. As
the two increasingly get drawn to one another, Chiedza falls for Lincoln but is
also concerned that because of her status, there was no possibility of her
relationship with Lincoln ever going beyond friendship. It is a game of high
stakes where this relationship must be consummated but, at the same time, too
many hurdles that must be jumped over…
THE
GOSPEL OF GRACE
The Gospel of Grace (From the Old to the New Testament)
was published in 2016 by New Heritage Press. This is Chidavaenzi’s first
published spiritual inspiration books and explores the relationship between the
Old and the New Testaments of the Bible.
The book is meant to draw New Testament Christian believers from the
legalistic nature of the Old Covenant and the condemnation of the law so they
can enjoy their inheritance under the New Testament dispensation of grace.

THE
LATTER RAIN
The Latter Rain, set to be published in 2016, tells the
gripping story of two teenagers who flee their Mt. Darwin village to Harare in
search of a better life. Isabel runs away from the wrath of a vindictive step
mother while her friend, Dorothy, follows two years later in a breath-taking
escape from an arranged marriage to a rich and powerful polygamous sect leader
who has helped her family with food at the height of a devastating famine. The two girls, however, quickly realise that
Harare’s streets are not paved with gold and they have to make serious
compromises to survive. They make different life choices and while one ends up
dead ten years later, the other pursues a life of faith. But she has a
herculean task of trying to mend broken relations with a family that she has
deeply wounded. But this, too, is a story of how broken ties are mended, human
depravity confronted by grace and hope restored even as drought paves way for
the rain, when the Holy Spirit seizes a man’s life.
WALKING
IN THE SPIRIT
Scripture
demonstrates that God has always desired to reveal Himself to man throughout the
ages, and despite man’s rebellious streak, God has continued to pursue man. The
cross of Calvary was the climax of that pursuit, in which the curtain of the
Holy of Holies was torn right through the middle, granting all men access to
the Father through Jesus Christ. When we come to Christ after accepting the
gospel, it is often not easy navigating our way through in this new Kingdom
which has its own unique system of operation. In this book, Pastor Phillip
Kundeni Chidavaenzi shares his wealth of knowledge and wisdom in the fundamental
principles of the Christian faith. In this book, the lenses of Scripture are
used to address some clearly heretical teachings that have invaded the body of
Christ. Here is a confrontation with the spirit of error which has planted
deep-seated spiritual strongholds in the Church. Here you will find
revelations, divine insights, anecdotal stories and the author’s personal
experiences in his walk with the Lord over the last 10 years and how his
journey of faith punctures many of the myths and cleverly devised fables
wrapped up as the gospel that are spreading all over the globe today. The book
is set for official release in 2017.
CHASING
THE WIND
(Details and cover pic coming later)
SWORD IN
THE WILDERNESS
Phillip Kundeni Chidavaenzi takes us through Zimbabwe’s
tortured political and socio-economic landscape marked by strife and hardship
as the country of his birth plunges into its worst political and economic
crises. It is a haunting, evocative story about a nation travailing in pain,
capturing it in all its colour, smells, strife and heartbreak of ordinary a
people under siege from political and economic forces bigger than them. It
chronicles the story of Jason Marasha, who is forced to return to Zimbabwe
after losing his job in South Africa and witnessing his best friend set ablaze
during a xenophobic attack. Back home in Zimbabwe, the memories of the
unprovoked cruelty and disregard for life that characterised the attacks. Upon
his return home, he is shocked to discover that his fiancée, Fadzai, has been
having an illicit affair with a prominent physician in the city, himself
haunted by a troubled past, and hoping to find lasting love and comfort after
meeting Fadzai. This triggers a series of events that leave them both stranded
beyond the possibility of reunion, particularly after Fadzai discovers a
shocking revelation. Although the story is set in troubled times, it is told in
fine, almost elegant prose and flows smoothly to its climax as Jason realises
that the terror outside as he battles to make his life work in his home country
is bigger than the terror outside. The book, which is yet to be completed, is
likely to be released in 2018.
